For this exercise you will also need a simple white box. You can make one by finding something box shaped and spray painting it flat white. Or you can order them off ebay. Or you can even make your own from scratch if you are handy:) Also save it as you will use it later for other exercises.
Next place the box on a table or shelf etc. Set it up with something like a darker color poster board behind and below it. And of course make sure you have a good source of light. Now set up your easel a comfortable working distance away. And set it up at a slight angle. We do not need it vertical like the other the other exercise.
Now like exercise A you do not want to move your position. If you do your point of view will change and it will be very hard to make an accurate drawing. You also do not want to measure with string like we did in exercise A. On this exercise you will need to measure shapes in relation to each other instead of 1 to 1 with the subject. And you can do this either by eyeballing it or you can also help by holding your arm strait and using your pencil as a judge angles etc.
Now start out by what you find the most easy to see. For example the vertical like closest to you. Get this perfectly vertical and in relation to the size you want to draw the subject. Also keep in mind to leave enough room for the entire image on the paper we do not want to run off the edge. After you have this down go to the next logical line. Judge this lines angle and length by comparing it to the first line. Then go to the next line and you can estimate it using the first two lines. Repeat this until you have all the edge lines down for the box. No shading yet. Now turn it to another angle and do it again. Repeat until you feel you are getting it down correctly. Keep in mind if you were in class with a teacher they could tell you if you have something off you do not notice.
And as mentioned in Exercise A stand back and use your entire arm not just your wrist. And use the correct grips mentioned in the intro.
