Today’s featured artist is Clarkson Frederick Stanfield (3 December 1793 – 18 May 1867). He was a well known English marine painter. One thing that added to his realistic representation of ships was his years as a sailor. In his time as a sailor he served in both the Royal Navy and as a merchant sailor. And he sailed as far as China. This time at sea clearly added to his understanding of the sea and ships.
Stanfield also spent some time working on the large panoramas of the day.
