Featured Artist Walter Crane

Today’s featured artist is the great English children’s book illustrator and artist Walter Crane. Walter Crane was a very interesting artist who was part of the Arts And Crafts Movement.  He created a wage range of art including illustrations, children’s books, ceramic tiles and other decorative arts.

Well I am back for the new year after a short break.  And to start things off here is the great Russian landscape  painter Ivan Shishkin.  He was born in Elabuga that is in what is today is The Republic of Tatarstan.

Featured Artist Ford Madox Brown

Today’s featured artist is Ford Madox Brown. Ford Madox Brown who was born in 1821 and died 1893 was an English painter who is well known for his Pre-Raphaelite style. But because he was born in Calais and not England he was never really accepted by the Pre-Raphaelite’s. Featured Artist Isaac Ilyich Levitan

Today’s featured artist is Isaac Ilyich Levitan. He was a Russian landscape painter in the 19th century. He lived from 1860 to 1900. I do not know a lot about him but I thought you would enjoy his works.

Featured Artist Katsushika Hokusai

Todays featured artist is Katsushika Hokusai. Katsushika was a leading Japanese artist in the edo period. One of the things he was well known for was his wood block prints. He was born in 1760 and lived to 1849.

His work and others like it came to the west starting after 1854 when Commodore Matthew Perry forced Japan to open to the rest of the world. This art had a big influence on western art in the late 19th and early 20th century.
